Implement the linear assignment problem

The linear assignment problem finds the minimum assignment of N jobs to N workers given a matrix of costs, e.g.

Workers \ Jobs Wash car Clean house Repair roof
Joe $10 $8 $15
Frank $5 $6 $12
Mark $8 $5 $10

An optimal solution in this case would be to let Joe do the house cleaning, Frank washes the car and Mark repairs the roof.

The LAP can be solved to optimality by the Hungarian algorithm in O(n3). This algorithm is to be implemented as well.

Andreas, I found a few issues in the review. I put the important issues in bold font. Please review my comments and change the code if necessary.

User Interface

  • Does it have the look and feel of HeuristicLab?
    • yes.
  • Is it understandable, does the user know what to do?
    • yes.
  • Are appropriate controls used?
    • yes.
  • Are controls correctly locked/set readonly?
    • in SetEnabledStateOfControls only the assignmentDataGridView is enabled/disabled. The assignmentViewHost is not disabled/enabled.
  • Is it responsive?
    • yes


  • Are important features missing?
    • no
  • Are there additional interesting features (maybe for later)?
    • Sorry, I didn't research this, but considering that this is a straight-forward basic algorithm I believe that there are no additional features.
  • If it is a storable item, can it be correctly saved and loaded?
    • I couldn't save a Hungarian Algorithm and the Linear Assignment Problem through the GUI
    • The solution could be saved and restored successfully.
  • Are/should unit tests be included?
    • A unit test with three different examples is included.
  • Is the impact of the change appropriate?
    • I guess so.
  • Is the feature implemented in the right plugin?
    • yes.
  • Is it fast enough?
    • yes.

    • In general: yes.
    • the property ReactOnValueToStringChangedAndValueItemImageChanged is set explicitly to false for parameters of the problem

The artificial example with the resources human, von-neumann, quantum computer is strange.

  • Added IStorableContent to HungarianAlgorithm, LinearAssignmentProblem, and LAPAssignment (it was only storable, because the result is storable)
  • Added separate AfterDeserialization hook and renamed AttachEventHandlers to RegisterEventHandlers
  • Added cloning of rowNames and columnNames in LAPAssignment
  • Changed the default instance of the LinearAssignmentProblem to a real-world example
